How Do New Players Tryout for NOCA? The Instructional Assessment with Video & Feedback

How Do Player’s Tryout?

NOCA’s Instructional Assessment

*Send an email to info@nocabaseball.com to request more information and to schedule your Instructional Assessment.

A Private to Semi-Private Multi-Skill Workout performed with one of NOCA’s Directors serves as NOCA’s “New Player Tryout” Process.  This hour long assessment uses Video Analysis to give us a better representation on who you are as an athlete, where we can best instruct you as player, and also allows you to see who we are as Coaches.

*We believe the “Cattle Call” Tryout is obsolete when evaluating kids. It just misses too much and it doesn’t provide the level of intimacy required.  So we just use our greatest strength, Instruction & Assessment, and apply that towards assessing New Players.

NOCA’s Instructional Assessments allow us to evaluate players by offering Video Analysis in (3) Functional Baseball Areas:

  • Hitting:
    • Swing Mechanics (Setup, Weight Shifts, Launch)
    • Timing Bias
    • Gaze Behavior
    • Cognition Assessment/Swing Adjustability
  • Pitching:
    • Motor Preferences
    • 1st Movement Efficiency
    • Spin Commands
    • Kinematic Sequencing (flowing through postures)
  • Defense:
    • Position Specific Bias (where you best grade)
    • Forecast Timing
    • Footwork & Glove Wielding
    • Arm Actions

This assessment also serves as a great Initial Benchmark to work from regarding a player’s Individual Development Plan as he moves forward to 14, 15, etc.

Immediately after your Instructional Assessment is completed, we offer direct feedback as to where you Grade amongst your peers Locally, Regionally, & Nationally.  We also offer insights into the specific Defensive Positions you  currently gravitate towards and what specific Movements & “Drills” best target your training needs moving forward.  We can even offer Cognative Enhancements and Targeted Physical Performance Areas to focus on moving forward.
